Made
up from almost every field of study, the 200 member TCU Marching
Band is one of the most visible and prestigious organizations
on campus. The band performs before an annual crowd of almost
200,000. The band has also traveled to exciting bowl games the
last three consecutive years. As a member of the TCU Band you
are a part of an exciting and spirited group. Many members cherish
lifelong friendships as well as the instant support network
gained as you enter the TCU Campus. Because TCU's membership
in the Mountain West Conference, the Horned Frog Marching Band
regularly performs for large crowds in an exciting football
atmosphere throughout the fall.
All students
at Texas Christian University are eligible to participate in
the marching band. This program benefits students of varying
degrees of talent and differing musical interests, aiding those
who are looking toward a career in music as well as those for
whom music will be an enriching avocation. The band performs
at all home football games, several away games, guest exhibitions
at marching festivals, at pep rallies, other campus functions,
the Fort Worth Stock Show Parade, and bowl games.
While Marching
Band is a fall semester course, all members are encouraged to
enroll in one of the three concert organizations that meet in
the spring: The Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band and University
Concert Band. The Wind Symphony also meets during the fall semester.
Several outstanding jazz ensembles, along with the TCU Basketball
Band, are also great musical opportunities at TCU.
Summer
Band
Approximately
ten days before school starts the TCU Marching Band begins preparing
for the upcoming season by returning to campus and starting
to learn the first pre-game and half-time shows. Each instrument
section meets on its own, working on music and marching style,
and on developing a common bond upon which to build a great
season. When school begins, band members are already settled
into their dorms and ready to start the semester. To read the
TCU Band Summer Newsletter, filled with lots of information
about the upcoming marching season, click here.
Colorguard
The TCU Colorguard adds a visual
component to the marching band. We always strive to challenge
each member of the guard but do so in a fun and enjoyable way.
We welcome a wide range of talent and skill and do not require
any previous colorguard experience. There is no tryout process
to be on the TCU colorguard, however hard work and dedication
is a requirement. Depending on the year’s show, the colorguard
may spin weapons in addition to flags. For the weapon line,
previous experience is typically needed. Members are not required
to play an instrument in any concert bands but are encouraged
to participate in other areas of the TCU School of Music. For
those looking to continue their colorguard experience or want
to try something new, the TCU colorguard is a great way to make
friends, get involved, and cheer on the TCU football team.

TCU colorguard please contact Lindsey von Holstein (L.vonholstein@tcu.edu),
